Alysha - Sleiman Dayaa
Who’s Alysha?
My name’s Alysha. I’m a singer-songwriter from London. I’m also half Indian and half Cuban and I play the bass guitar.
What made you want to become a musician?
My love for music since I was a child, I would constantly listen to music at home. My mum would play such good music, ranging from Beyoncé to Siouxsie and the Banshees. I also was a multi-instrumentalist as a child but then dropped it in my early teenage years, I still don’t know why I stopped learning the instruments.
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
Fashion and art. I love avant-garde fashion and incorporate it into my look as an artist.
What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?
I have a broad understanding of music and am open to all types. I also have music in my family history, my grandfather on my dad’s side was a well-known musician in Cuba in the 50s, also my family in Cuba can all sing, dance, or play music.
What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?
The music I listen to inspires me; songwriting is the only way I know how to express myself.
Describe your favorite and least favorite part about being a musician
My favorite part of being a musician is being able to play and sing, it’s so satisfying for my soul. My least favorite part though is the industry, everyone is competitive and because of social media, I feel like it’s even harder to put yourself out there.
What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next five to 10 years?
Hopefully anything and everything. Brits, Grammys, VMAs. I want to do well in my career.
