burberry – womenswear autumn/winter 2021 - Riccardo Tisci

Riccardo Tisci’s lover letter to women and his mother presents a stellar collection. She is also Mother Nature in motion, and we bow to her in all her fine elements, her sheer force of will, strength and unconditional love.

She is also the modern feminine, and she speaks. Quiteeccentrically so. Trompe l’oeil, faux fur merges the old with the new. The beloved trench coat takes on faux fur and leather, photographic fox print wool, and geometric intarsia. Freedom sings through with fluttering cape-sleeve dresses, both color blocked and in animal print, and they find their rhythm, fluttering wild and free in the wind. Flag intarsias flow on silk, satin and tulle skirts with geometric panels and prints. The cape seems sways in check cashmere, and the limelight is stolen by a dazzling sun. A pulse of feminine energy come alive, a gold lamé trench coat with eyelet fringing and hundreds of paillettes sparkle, dazzle, and tell us this isn’t a dream, that the modern woman is alive, free and has a lot to say…and accomplish.

‘Throughout my life, my mother has been this incredible force of nature. As a single parent, she raised me and my eight sisters with unfaltering purpose and pride. So, naturally, I have always been drawn to strong women and, in turn, they have also given me the confidence to express my own femininity. They are not afraid to challenge expectations and I have always been in such awe of their determination. They are warriors. I wanted this collection to feel truly emblematic of the power of feminine energy: a modern armour that captures its characteristic fierce aura. There’s an underlying attitude to the collection that’s very British; of being unique, eccentric and totally authentic in how you express yourself. This presentation is a love letter to women and a celebration of their incomparable strength.’ Riccardo Tisci, Burberry Chief Creative Officer.
