Entrudos - Lucia Alonso
This project is a photographic investigation focused on the figure of the Felo, a key character in the Entroido of Maceda, a rural town in Galicia, Spain. The Entroido is a deeply rooted celebration with ancient rural and pagan origins, symbolizing cultural continuity despite the pressures of time, migration, and modernization. The goal of this project is to document how younger generations in Maceda are preserving and revitalizing this tradition, particularly through the involvement of children and adolescents who take on the role of the Felo. This participation ensures the survival of a practice that is integral to the community’s identity. In recent years, many rural areas in Galicia, including Maceda, have faced significant depopulation, as younger people migrate to urban centers. This puts local traditions like the Entroido at risk of fading. However, the active participation of youth represents not only resilience but a vital act of cultural survival.
