Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo presents Andy Warhol Serial Portraits, a new exhibition exploring the legendary artist’s lifelong fascination with identity, image, and disguise. Part of the Fondation Louis Vuitton’s Hors-les-Murs programme, the show brings rarely seen works from the Collection to an international audience.

From intimate early ballpoint sketches to iconic silkscreen self-portraits, the exhibition traces Warhol’s transformation of portraiture across decades. It reveals a restless innovator who blurred the boundaries between art, celebrity, and self-performance from his “in drag” Polaroids to the disheveled photo booth images captured near the end of his life.

Warhol’s portraits do more than reflect individuals; together, they form a collective mirror of their time. This exhibition captures the artist’s genius for adaptation and reinvention a vision still resonant in today’s image-saturated culture.
